Unified Communicator – SIP Technology
Converging Communication Platforms
Unified Communicator is a powerful tool designed
to allow users to manage their communications,
streamline business, and increase productivity.
Unified communicator blends call features, routing
rules, contacts, collaboration, availability and
presence into a single platform.
Users interact with this application through a
variety of methods including desktop phones, cell
phones, personal computers, handheld organizers,
and speech recognition devices. With a wide array
of interfaces users can access features and functions
no matter where they are.
Another feature that can be installed on the Unified
Communicator platform is Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).
SIP is a connectivity protocol that allows a wide range of
standard protocols to connect in a standard fashion.
Think of SIP as the tunnel that all your communications
applications can meet. The open nature of this protocol
allows for flexible connectivity among endpoints so
many types of applications can converge on one unified platform.
SIP allows users to manage multimedia applications in a dynamic
blender. This helps users more easily utilize various types of
communication such as phone calls, text to speech, instant
messaging, and conferencing. On the back end SIP is written with
text based language similar to ones used to build websites, so the
use of third party hardware (such as phones) is easily adapted to.
